Oral SedationOral sedation is taking prescribed medications orally to create a medically controlled state of depressed consciousness while maintaining the patient’s airway, protective reflexes, and ability to respond to stimulation or verbal commands. Sedation dentistry includes non-intravenous sedation and/or analgesic agents and appropriate monitoring. The intent is to decrease the level of anxiousness for the dental phobic patient so that dental treatment may be delivered safely and comfortably.
